This page is about getting from one city to the other. It is a transfer, not a sightseeing tour: the car takes the direct route with comfort stops, and sightseeing stops are added only if you ask for them and they are in your quote.

Tbilisi to Batumi

The driver collects you from your hotel or apartment in Tbilisi and drives you to your address in Batumi. You can also be collected straight from Tbilisi airport when you land.

Morning departures leave more daylight for the drive. If you are coming straight off a flight, include the flight number so the pickup follows your landing.

Batumi to Tbilisi

Pickup from your hotel or apartment in Batumi, drop-off at your address in Tbilisi or at Tbilisi airport for your flight.

If you are flying out of Tbilisi the same day, give your flight time. The quote suggests a departure time from Batumi with a safe margin instead of cutting it close.

How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi: car, train or bus

Tbilisi and Batumi are about 350 to 375 kilometres apart by road, depending on the route. The highway crosses the country from east to west, over the Rikoti Pass and through the lowlands around Kutaisi to the coast. There are three main ways to make the trip.

OptionWhat it is likeBest for
Private carDoor to door from your hotel or apartment, leaving when you choose, with stops when you need them. Price per vehicle.Families, groups, travellers with luggage, and anyone who wants to stop on the way
TrainDouble-decker trains run between Tbilisi Central Station and Batumi a few times a day and take around five hours. Seats are reserved, so book ahead in summer. You still need to get to and from the stations.Travellers with light luggage who like a fixed timetable
Bus or minibusThe cheapest option, from Tbilisi’s main bus stations. Slower and less comfortable than the train, with limited luggage space.Budget travellers

Check train times and buy tickets on the Georgian Railway website or at the station; schedules change between seasons.

Comfort stops and sightseeing stops

Short breaks for coffee, food or a stretch are part of a long drive. A sightseeing stop is different: it adds time and sometimes distance, so it is planned and priced as part of the trip.

Places travellers sometimes ask to see on the way include Gori, Kutaisi and the monasteries near it. Comfort stops are included; sightseeing stops are priced on request.

If you want a full day of sightseeing with the car, a private driver booked for the day may suit you better.
